The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has announced a 21-day temporary suspension of its Kajola–Apapa passenger train service to allow for scheduled maintenance of its locomotives and coaches.
The suspension will take effect from Monday, July 6, 2026, with the last passenger service operating on Friday, July 3, before the maintenance period begins.
According to the NRC, freight operations to and from the Apapa Port Complex, as well as train services on both narrow gauge and standard gauge corridors, will continue without interruption throughout the maintenance exercise.
To reduce the impact on commuters, the corporation advised passengers to use its Lagos Mass Transit Train (LMTT) services, which run every weekday from Monday to Friday.
Under the alternative service schedule, morning trains will depart Ijoko at 6:30 a.m. and Kajola at 7:00 a.m. for Iddo, while evening return services will leave Iddo at 5:30 p.m. for Ijoko and 6:15 p.m. for Kajola.
NRC Managing Director, Dr Kayode Opeifa, said the maintenance programme was necessary to improve the safety, reliability and efficiency of railway operations.
Opeifa, in a statement, thanked passengers for their patience and understanding, assuring them of the corporation’s continued commitment to providing safe, reliable and efficient rail transportation across the country.
