The Rotary Club of Iyana-Iyesi Ota, Ogun State, on Sunday inducted Rotarian Olawale Oguntoyinbo as its second president for rotary year 2022-2023.
The Imaginative President as he is referred used the auspicious occasion to reel out his projects for the year in line with the 7 area of focus of Rotary International, expressing confidence of leaving imprints on the sand of time at the end of his tenure.
In his acceptance speech, Rotarian Oguntoyinbo who started with appreciating those present at his investiture, said, "I feel good, happy and humbled having all of you attending my investiture ceremony. I sincerely appreciate everyone for coming."
He said, "My journey into Rotary started years back through campus affiliations with wonderful Rotaractors, but I came to the realization of these virtues when Rotary was introduced to me through the renowned Rotary club of Ota under the then Opportunity President, Rotarian Funke Salau. A further exposition from Rotarian Muyideen Alagbe at the generosity of the club which at the time donated pipe borne water to my community cleared my doubts about Rotary and her intentions.
"About three years after this awesome encounter, I am delighted to belong to the community of revered and conscionable personalities as the second President of this young club.
"While I am aware that there are a lot of sacrifices and commitments in these responsibilities amongst which were already undertaken, I accept to continue leading the club under the Imagine Rotary year.
"The efforts shall be geared towards realizing the Seven Focus of Rotary. The focus on Education & Literacy, Save Mother & Child, Growing Local Economies, Protecting Our Environment, Fighting Diseases, Promoting Peace & Providing Clean Water shall be pursued vigorously as we make lasting change in our community and in the world." He stressed.
Explaining how he intends to raise money to execute the projects, Rotarian Oguntoyinbo said, "We have been able to raise some amounts, courtesy of individuals that believe in the values of Rotary, contributed money amongst ourselves as members, and we shall partner with business and corporate bodies in Ota environs to execute our projects.
He gave details of the projects he had executed so far, to include; Empowering women with education & micro credit scheme. Provision of two boreholes to their immediate community & environs.
Others include the renovation of Iyesi Health Centre and Support operations, donation of educational materials, including textbooks and notebooks to public primary schools in Iyesi environ.
The club also donated food items to motherless home, hospital, and the less privilege. They organised public seminar and provision of billboards, while they also planted trees for the beautification of Iyesi / Mupin environs.
Rotarian Funke Salau, the award winning past president of Rotary Club of Ota, who facilitated the creation of the Iyana-Iyesi Club, gave her assessment of the Imaginative President, expressing strong confidence for his capacity to take the club to the next level.
She said, "Rotarian Oguntoyinbo is a thoroughbred professional in the oil industry, who is up to the task, I believe he is ready to take the challenges of the club through the year, and I know he will perform creditably well, because if you have money and people who are ready to support you, added to your commitment, then you will soar to achieve what you desire.
As a president, he will be expected to execute a minimum of 20 projects within the year of his tenure and he is up to the task." She added.
Rotarian Dr. Wole Kukoyi, District Governor Nominee for District 9110, also expressed his absolute confidence in the ability of Rotarian Oguntoyinbo and the fledging club, stressing that the new president started on a very good note and have been progressing in the right path which is commendable and for the club, he asserted they performed absolutely well in the first year erasing any doubt of succeeding in the current rotary year.
Dr. Lanre Amodu, the guest lecturer taught that, "There are so many problems we are confronted with in Nigeria. When we think about all these problems, somebody will think What can I do about this, can my efforts count, can I even do anything that will make a difference?
Another person is wondering, do I have ideas that are worth it? Somebody says this problem is too big. Where does anyone start? And then somebody would finally say, I have my own problem.
"This is where rotary becomes very important. Not only do they handle their our own issues, but are taking other people's problems as the responsibility of Rotary.
"So rotary is not thinking about self rotary thinking about service. All of those big problems that seem insurmountable are the things that rotary is challenging." He opined.
In his valedictory speech, Rotarian Sunday Olaniyan, "On behalf of the outgoing board members of our club, I wish to thank God for His divine direction and wisdom which made it possible for us to achieve our goals.
"For the support received from members and Board Members during my tenure, I appreciate your understanding, tolerance, respect and honor accorded me. I appreciate the prominent members of the club for their advice and guidance. May God continue to bless you all.
"I also acknowledge the management of Begonia Hall where our meeting holds. Please let us continue to keep our values positive and positively impact humanity.
