The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and the Nigerian Institute of Transport Technology (NITT), Zaria, have entered into a strategic partnership aimed at improving transport training, research, innovation and capacity development in Nigeria’s transport sector.
The two institutions formalised the collaboration through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), which is expected to enhance professional standards, strengthen institutional capacity and support the development of a more efficient and globally competitive transport system.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, FRSC Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, described the agreement as a major milestone in efforts to transform Nigeria’s road transport sector.
Mohammed said the partnership reflects the commitment of both organisations to creating a safer, smarter and more sustainable transport environment through specialised training, technological advancement and knowledge sharing.
According to him, the MoU will expand cooperation in areas including driver training, research, technology development, human capital development and the exchange of expertise between the two institutions.
He noted that FRSC and NITT have maintained a long-standing relationship that has delivered positive outcomes, adding that the formal agreement would usher in a new phase of deeper collaboration and institutional excellence.
The Corps Marshal explained that the partnership would support the modernisation of driver training centres, strengthen research capabilities and promote ICT-based learning platforms to prepare transport professionals capable of responding to emerging mobility and road safety challenges.
He stressed that the agreement was not merely ceremonial but an implementation framework designed to accelerate reforms and improve standards across Nigeria’s transport industry.
Also speaking, the Director-General of NITT, Dr Bayero Farah, said the partnership was aimed at aligning transport education, professional training and research with international best practices.
Farah stated that the initiative would contribute to developing skilled manpower needed to drive sustainable growth and innovation within the nation’s transport sector.
He commended the leadership of the FRSC for its commitment and dedication throughout the negotiation process, describing the successful signing of the MoU as a step towards building a stronger and more modern transport system.
The collaboration is expected to play a key role in advancing road safety, improving professional competence and supporting Nigeria’s ambition to develop a world-class transportation sector.
