The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Ogun State Sector Command, has warned motorists against driving against the flow of traffic on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, urging road users to exercise patience and obey traffic regulations.
The Sector Commander, Mr Oludare Ogunjobi, gave the warning on Tuesday in Ota, Ogun State, during an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
Ogunjobi said the advisory became necessary following heavy rainfall that caused flooding along parts of the expressway, forcing some motorists to resort to driving against traffic in an attempt to avoid affected areas. He noted that the action worsened congestion and created additional risks for commuters.
“The FRSC is appealing to motorists to be patient, reduce speed and avoid driving against the flow of traffic,” he said.
The sector commander explained that impatience and disregard for traffic rules often worsen already difficult road situations, especially during emergencies such as flooding.
He added that FRSC personnel, alongside other traffic management agencies, had been deployed to strategic points on the expressway to control movement, ease congestion and restore normal traffic flow.
The News Agency of Nigeria reported that the heavy rainfall led to significant delays on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, with several motorists spending hours on the road due to the resulting traffic challenges.
The FRSC advised motorists to remain cautious, drive within safe speed limits and cooperate with traffic officials to prevent further disruptions.
