The Delta State Government has approved the reconstruction of the Otu-Jeremi/Udu Road at a cost of ₦22.69 billion as part of efforts to improve road infrastructure and stimulate economic activities across the state.
The approval was granted during the 14th meeting of the Delta State Tenders Board for 2026, held at the Conference Hall of the Office of the Deputy Governor in Government House, Asaba.
The project involves the rehabilitation and reconstruction of the Otu-Jeremi/Udu Road from the Warri–Port Harcourt Expressway at the ECN Junction to the DSC Expressway at Udu Road Junction, including a spur leading to Otor-Udu.
The road, which traverses parts of Ughelli South and Udu Local Government Areas, will be executed by the Delta State Ministry of Works (Highways and Urban Roads).
Speaking after the meeting, the Commissioner for Works (Highways and Urban Roads), Reuben Izeze, said the approval underscores the state's commitment to upgrading critical infrastructure and improving connectivity across Delta.
He noted that the project would enhance the movement of people and goods, facilitate commercial activities and support economic growth in the affected communities.
According to the commissioner, the reconstruction aligns with Governor Sheriff Oborevwori's MORE Agenda, which prioritises the delivery of durable infrastructure aimed at improving the living standards of residents.
Izeze expressed confidence that the project would reduce travel time, improve transportation and contribute to the socio-economic development of communities along the road corridor upon completion.
