The Federal Government has commenced Phase II of the rehabilitation of the Babban Lamba–Sharam Road in Plateau State as part of efforts to improve critical infrastructure, enhance regional connectivity and stimulate economic growth.
Speaking at the project inauguration, President Bola Tinubu, represented by the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, described the road project as a strategic investment that would boost economic activities, create employment opportunities, promote tourism and strengthen regional integration.
He said the project forms part of the administration's nationwide infrastructure renewal programme being implemented across the country's six geopolitical zones.
Tinubu noted that the road is of significant national importance and urged the contractor handling the project to prioritise the employment of people from communities along the project corridor throughout the construction period.
The President reiterated the Federal Government's commitment to delivering critical infrastructure capable of driving national development and improving the socio-economic wellbeing of Nigerians.
Also speaking, the Minister of Works, David Umahi, appreciated the support of the host communities and highlighted the administration's achievements in the road sector, while reaffirming the government's openness to constructive criticism.
Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, described the rehabilitation project as a landmark intervention that would improve connectivity, reduce travel time, stimulate economic activities and attract new investments to the state and neighbouring areas.
He expressed optimism that the project would contribute significantly to the state's economic development and improve the livelihoods of residents.
