The Lagos State Environmental and Special Offences Unit, popularly known as the Lagos State Taskforce, has commenced enforcement operations along the Alaba Rago corridor of the Mile 2–Badagry Expressway following the expiration of a 72-hour notice issued to traders and occupants operating illegally in the area.
The enforcement exercise, which began on Monday, is targeting illegal street trading, unauthorised structures, and other activities identified as violations of the state’s environmental regulations. Officers of the agency were deployed to the corridor to clear obstructions on highways, walkways, medians, and road setbacks.
The operation is being carried out in collaboration with relevant government enforcement agencies as part of efforts to restore order, improve public safety, ease traffic congestion, and address environmental concerns along the busy Lagos–Badagry corridor.
Before the commencement of the exercise, the Chairman of the Lagos State Taskforce, CSP Adetayo Akerele, had engaged traders and occupants within the area, urging them to comply voluntarily with government directives and vacate prohibited locations.
Akerele explained that the enforcement became necessary following growing complaints from motorists, residents, pedestrians, visitors, and environmental stakeholders over persistent traffic obstruction, environmental degradation, and security challenges linked to activities along the corridor.
He said the Lagos State Government remained committed to enforcing environmental laws and safeguarding public infrastructure while ensuring that Lagos maintains the standards of a modern and orderly megacity.
The Taskforce chairman warned that structures and items found obstructing public spaces or violating government regulations would be removed in line with existing laws.
He added that the agency would continue to carry out its mandate of maintaining environmental cleanliness, protecting public facilities, and ensuring safer roads for residents and commuters across the state.
The enforcement operation is being supervised by the Lagos State Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources as part of ongoing measures to create a cleaner, safer, and more organised urban environment.
