Rotary Club Of Lekki-Novare Recounts Charity Services To Host Communities

 

OLORUNDARE ENIMOLA, Lagos 

Rotarian Amaka Ogboh, the 'United President of Rotary Club of Lekki Novare in a Media parley on Thursday 13, November, recounted some of the Charity projects and programmes executed by the Club to host communities in the Lekki-Ajah axis in accordance to the Rotary Club International's Seven Areas of Focus.

According to her, the Club in alignment with Rotary’s Area of Focus on Maternal and Child Health, commenced the Rotary year with a compassionate donation of birth kits to expectant mothers at the Mother and Child Care Hospital, Abraham Adesanya, Ogombo Road, Ajah, Lagos.

"This project was in line with Rotary International’s global celebration of Maternal and Child Health Month, fulfilled with the distribution of birth kits to promote dignified, hygienic, and safe deliveries while supporting vulnerable mothers in our community." She said.

Adding that the project was executed in partnership with the hospital management team, under the supervision of Matron Olayinka Oladunjoye and the Maternity Unit. 

"The cooperation of the hospital during the needs assessment exercise paved way for the club to address real and urgent needs within the hospital." She affirmed.

According to the Matron, over 50 expectant mothers benefited directly from the distribution, while imparting knowledge on maternal hygiene and safe delivery practices.

She said, "this kind gesture has strengthened partnership between Rotary and the healthcare institution."

Rotarian Amaka reiterated that the project marks the beginning of a long-term partnership aimed at continuous support for maternal and child health within the Abraham Adesanya–Ogombo axis.

The Club also donated exercise books and educational materials to 500 students of Eti-Osa Community High School, Sangotedo, Lagos on Thursday, 25, September this year.

According to Amaka the donation to the school is in commemoration of Rotary’s focus on Basic Education and Literacy, prompting the Club to target the Eti-Osa Community High School for the educational support project aimed at enhancing learning among the students.

"The initiative involves the distribution of over 500 students academic materials to improve learning, boost students' morale and readership culture, while strengthening Rotary’s image as a supporter of education within the community." She said.

Adding that the Club appreciates the school's management for conducting a detailed needs assessment and facilitating the smooth coordination during the distribution event.

In her remarks, Mrs Olubumi Kuforiji, the School Principal, appreciated the Club, while speaking on behalf of the students, reaffirmed their belief that the  kind gesture of the Club will certainly contribute to give the benefiting students a better learning experience and a guaranteed future through education.

In the same vein, the Club on Thursday 23, October, carried out an economic empowerment outreach at the Abraham Adesanya Market, Ajah to empower small-scale traders.

The outreach executed in line with Rotary’s Area of Focus on Community Economic Development impacted 20 small-scale traders who received various sums of financial support, giving rise to improved business capacity and fostered community trust while strengthening Rotary’s visibility in the locality.

Madams Nneka Madu and Tosin Adeniyi, who spoke on behalf of the beneficiaries, expressed heartfelt gratitude, highlighting how the intervention would significantly improve their businesses.

"The project stands as a testament to Rotary’s role in driving economic empowerment and sustainable community growth." Rotarian Amaka said.
