Two people have died while two others escaped unhurt following a road crash at Ogere Junction along the Ijebu Ode–Benin Expressway in Ogun State.
The crash occurred at about 5:10 a.m. on Thursday and involved a white Mack truck with registration number ABC 660 XC and an orange Peugeot J5 bus with no visible registration number.
The spokesperson for the Ogun State Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Afolabi Odunsi, said four adult males were involved in the accident.
According to him, preliminary investigations indicate that route violation and speeding were the likely causes of the crash. He added that the impact caused the Peugeot J5 bus to burst into flames, with its front section completely burnt.
Odunsi said FRSC rescue teams arrived at the scene within two minutes of receiving the alert, managed traffic by diverting vehicles to the alternative carriageway, and worked to clear the wreckage.
He noted that the bodies of the deceased were evacuated by officers of the Nigeria Police Motor Traffic Division (MTD), Ogbere Division, and deposited at a mortuary.
Reacting to the incident, the Ogun State Sector Commander, Corps Commander Oludare Ogunjobi, sympathised with the families of the victims and urged motorists to obey traffic regulations.
He warned against speeding and route violations, particularly during poor visibility and on wet roads, stressing that such dangerous driving habits remain major causes of fatal road crashes.
Ogunjobi reaffirmed the FRSC's commitment to improving road safety through sustained enforcement, public awareness campaigns and prompt rescue operations. He also advised motorists to maintain safe speeds and ensure their vehicles are roadworthy before embarking on journeys.
The latest crash comes days after the FRSC disclosed that 161 people lost their lives in 415 road crashes recorded across Ogun State between January and May 2026, with 1,007 others sustaining varying degrees of injuries.
