The Ogun State Head of Service, Alhaji Iskeel Olanrewaju Saka, has urged the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency (TRACE) to strengthen its use of intelligence gathering, information and communication technology (ICT), and public education to improve traffic management across the state.
Saka made the call on Tuesday while receiving a delegation of the TRACE management team, led by the Most Senior TRACE Commander, Cmdr. Omonayajo Elias, during a courtesy visit to congratulate him on his appointment as the 21st Head of Service of Ogun State.
Commending the agency for maintaining safety and orderliness across the state's 27 major traffic corridors, the Head of Service said the changing nature of traffic management demands innovative approaches driven by intelligence, technology and sustained public awareness campaigns.
He also assured the agency of the state government's commitment to completing the recruitment exercise initiated last year to boost TRACE's operational capacity and improve service delivery.
Saka praised Omonaiyajo's proactive leadership and attention to operational details, while encouraging him to continue fostering teamwork within the agency. He urged members of the management team to support the commander in advancing the vision and mission established by TRACE's founding leadership.
Earlier, Omonaiyajo introduced members of his management team and briefed the Head of Service on the agency's operations, achievements and challenges since he assumed office on June 30, 2025.
According to him, TRACE has recorded a significant reduction in road traffic crashes over the past year through intensified public enlightenment campaigns, training and retraining of drivers, enforcement against traffic offenders, prompt evacuation of broken-down vehicles, improved traffic coordination and better parking management.
Despite these achievements, Omonaiyajo identified several operational challenges facing the agency, including inadequate manpower pending the completion of recruitment, shortage of operational equipment, patrol vehicles, heavy-duty and medium-duty tow trucks, Hiab trucks, patrol motorcycles, ambulances and a heavy-duty crane with a lifting capacity of between 120 and 200 tonnes.
He reaffirmed the agency's commitment to maintaining professionalism, selflessness, dedication and resourcefulness despite the operational constraints.
The visit underscored the Ogun State Government's commitment to strengthening traffic management and enhancing road safety through institutional support and improved operational capacity for TRACE.
