Lokoja – Kogi State Governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo, has called for stronger collaboration among governments and road safety stakeholders to reduce road crashes and safeguard lives across Nigeria.
The governor made the call on Wednesday while donating 10 electric patrol motorcycles to the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) at the Government House in Lokoja. The motorcycles were presented to the Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, shortly after Governor Ododo was invested as the Grand Patron of the FRSC Special Marshals.
Ododo said Kogi State's strategic position as the gateway between Northern and Southern Nigeria places enormous pressure on its road network, making effective traffic management and road safety measures essential to national socio-economic development.
He noted that the donated motorcycles would enhance the FRSC's operational capacity, improve emergency response, and strengthen highway patrol operations across the state and beyond.
"The motorcycles will improve the operational efficiency of the FRSC and support efforts to ensure safer highways for all road users," the governor said.
As part of efforts to strengthen road safety administration in the state, Ododo also announced the elevation of the Senior Special Assistant on Road Safety Matters, Yusuf Suberu, to the position of Special Adviser, citing his outstanding contributions to the sector.
The governor assured the FRSC leadership that requests presented by the Corps would receive favourable consideration from his administration.
He dedicated his investiture as Grand Patron of the FRSC Special Marshals to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, describing the honour as a reflection of the President's commitment to promoting road safety and protecting the lives of Nigerians.
Earlier, the Corps Marshal appealed to the Kogi State Government to revive motor parks across the state to improve traffic management. He was informed that the initiative is already underway and nearing completion.
Mohammed commended Governor Ododo for the donation, describing the 10 electric patrol motorcycles as a significant boost to the Corps' operational capacity.
According to him, the intervention will strengthen road safety operations and improve the FRSC's ability to respond effectively to emergencies on highways across the country.
