The Federal Government has introduced a technology-driven Airport Car Hire Rank Management System (ACHRAMS) to regulate airport taxi operations, enhance passenger safety and strengthen security across airports managed by the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN).
The new platform is designed to eliminate unregulated activities, improve service delivery and modernise ground transportation services at the nation's airports.
Speaking on the initiative, FAAN's Director of Commercial and Business Development, Adebola Agunbiade, said ACHRAMS was introduced to address long-standing challenges, including poor coordination of airport car hire services, inconsistent service quality and security concerns affecting passengers and operators.
She explained that the system would provide a standardised digital platform that ensures safer, more reliable and more efficient airport transportation services.
According to Agunbiade, the scheme will operate as a concession arrangement, with FAAN retaining oversight responsibility and managing the digital platform. Existing ride-hailing companies will participate under FAAN's operational guidelines but will not manage the system.
As part of the rollout, designated passenger pick-up points, centralised loading areas and dedicated parking bays will be established at airport terminals under FAAN's jurisdiction to improve traffic management and ensure orderly operations.
The FAAN official noted that the authority is adopting an inclusive implementation strategy that allows existing airport taxi operators, including informal operators, to transition into the new framework through registration, sensitisation and compliance with operational standards.
She said the objective is not to displace operators but to integrate them into a structured digital system that offers improved access to passengers and more efficient business processes.
The introduction of ACHRAMS comes amid longstanding complaints by travellers over the activities of unauthorised airport taxi operators, often accused of harassment, fare exploitation and operating without proper identification at several Nigerian airports.
FAAN said the initiative is expected to improve passenger experience, strengthen accountability in airport transport services and close security gaps in airport ground transportation nationwide.
