OLORUNDARE ENIMOLA, Lagos
The Ogun State Police Command has urged residents to promptly report security threats and emergencies through its newly highlighted 24-hour toll-free emergency line as part of efforts to strengthen community policing and enhance security across the state.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Bode Ojajuni, made the appeal during the commissioning of the Ota Divisional Police Headquarters in Ota, Ogun State.
Represented by the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations, DCP Bolanle Mustapha, the police commissioner said members of the public could access the command’s “Gateway Shield” emergency line, 08100009111, free of charge at any time.
He encouraged residents to make effective use of the police control room in reporting emergencies and suspicious activities requiring police intervention.
Ojajuni also directed Divisional Police Officers across the state to display the emergency number prominently within their stations to improve public awareness and accessibility.
The police commissioner noted that the inauguration of the divisional headquarters was in line with the vision of the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, to deepen grassroots policing and strengthen security presence nationwide.
According to him, the project was facilitated through the efforts of the Olota of Ota, Oba Adeyemi Obalanlege, to bring security infrastructure closer to the people.
Speaking at the event, Oba Obalanlege described the commissioning of the Ota Central Divisional Police Headquarters and a 40-bed Primary Health Centre as major milestones for Ota and the entire Aworiland.
The monarch said the projects symbolised progress, improved security, accessible healthcare and purposeful governance for residents of the area.
He commended President Bola Tinubu for his commitment to national development and praised Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun for sustaining a peaceful and investment-friendly environment in the state.
Oba Obalanlege also acknowledged the contribution of the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), Mrs Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire, for facilitating the projects.
Both the Ota Divisional Police Headquarters and the 40-bed Primary Health Centre were facilitated by the Office of the Senior Special Assistant to the President on SDGs.
