Governor of Dapo Abiodun has formally presented Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola to stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun West Senatorial District as the party’s consensus candidate for the 2027 governorship election in Ogun State.
The presentation took place on Wednesday during a stakeholders’ meeting held at the Asade Agunloye Pavilion, Empire Ground, Ilaro, in Yewa South Local Government Area of the state.
Governor Abiodun, accompanied by the APC State Chairman, Chief Yemi Sanusi, and members of the party’s state executive committee, said the decision to support a candidate from Ogun West was aimed at addressing what he described as a longstanding political imbalance in the state.
According to the governor, Ogun West has not produced a governor since the creation of Ogun State nearly 50 years ago, making the endorsement a significant step toward inclusiveness and equity.
He disclosed that the consensus arrangement followed wide consultations among party leaders and stakeholders and was later ratified at a state caucus meeting in Abeokuta, where Senator Adeola reportedly received unanimous endorsement.
Governor Abiodun described the development as a major political milestone and said the consensus model could serve as an example for other states across the country.
He urged party members to remain united ahead of the 2027 elections, assuring aspirants who were unsuccessful in the selection process that the party would recognise and compensate all serious contenders.
The governor also commended the people of Yewaland for their support during the 2023 governorship election and reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to equitable distribution of developmental projects across the state.
He further announced that the APC direct primary elections would commence on Friday, May 15, 2026, while calling on members to conduct themselves peacefully and avoid actions capable of undermining the credibility of the process.
In his acceptance speech, Senator Adeola expressed appreciation to party leaders and members for the confidence reposed in him, promising to justify the endorsement.
“I do not take this endorsement for granted, and I sincerely appreciate the leadership of the APC for this great honour,” he said.
The senator also acknowledged the support and mentorship of President Bola Tinubu and elder statesman Olusegun Osoba, while describing Governor Abiodun as a role model.
Adeola pledged to embark on a tour of the 236 wards across Ogun State after the primaries and called on APC members to remain united and work collectively toward the party’s success in the 2027 governorship election.
