Cdr Salau Ahmed, the Divisional Commander of TRACE, Ota, on behalf of Cdr. Elias Omonayajo, the Agency's acting Commander General on Wednesday distributed raincoats to operatives of the command to firm-up traffic control and enhance visibility of his men during rains.
Cdr. Salau,, speaking on behalf of the acting TRACE Commander General said the distribution was enabled through a Corporate Social Responsibility initiative to enhance professional efficiency and visibility of its operatives on the road during this rainy season often associated with traffic bottlenecks, vehicle breakdowns on the roads and high number of non-compliance by vehicle drivers.
Explaining that the the sacrificial effort of the donating partner became necessary in order to achieve visibility and safety of operatives during adverse weather conditions while performing their duties, adding that rain should not stop TRACE operatives from performing their duties, especially when traffic situation get worsened when raining.
Salau said, “It is observed that road traffic get messier when it is raining and our operatives do not have to vacate their duty posts during such period, but to put efforts required to attend to emergency situations when it arises, the raincoats would therefore shield them from dizzying impact of the rains,” Cdr Salau added.
Cdr Adekunle Ajibade, Ogun West Zonal Command commended the gesture, emphasized the important role of TRACE operatives in keeping the road traffic.
He lauded the Divisional Commander, Cdr Salau for prioritizing the welfare of the personnel, stating the initiative will enhance the visibility of the officers on road especially in rainy season.
He warned the agency’s personnel against any form of extortion and illegal practices, believing they would not be identified under the rain coat cover.
He said every raincoat has unique number identified with each operative.
“There would be a punishment for personnel who engaged in such activities, including prosecution for both offering and accepting bribes,” Cdr Ajibade said.
Echoing Cdr Ajibade, Divisional Cdr Salau also reiterated the need for professionalism, firmness and integrity while operatives discharge their duties.
