Lagos Urges Driving Schools To Allign With LASDRI's Updated Training Models

 

 

OLORUNDARE ENIMOLA, Lagos 

The Lagos State Government says it is committed to enhancing road safety and promoting sustainable development in the state, saying it has continued to invest in the transport infrastructure ecosystem and technology, empowering trainers of Drivers and first-line instructors.

Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi, the Commissioner for Transportation, Lagos State said this at the fifth edition of

the Lagos State Drivers Institute's year 2025 Driving school instruction held on Thursday at the SOT event centre,Alausa, signposting the state government's commitment to create a synergy between major stakeholders and establish a rapport across tiers of government to continuously

promote driver's education. 

Speaking at the event which is themed; Drivers Education, Partnership for Economic Growth and Development, Mrs. Afusat Tiamiyu, General Manager, Lagos State Drivers Institute, said, in line with her Agency's mission of training, retraining and certifying Driver's, it's the first point of call for learner drivers where they will be expected to foundationally get it right, translating into better driving culture and safer Lagos roads.

Tiamiyu said, "After today's annual event, we expect to see an improved driving culture that will resonate in society, thereby reducing the spate of crashes, deaths, and carnage on Lagos roads. It is expected to reset and rebrand the minds of drivers or road users across the state, reducing accidents and carnage on the roads and by extension, it will engender economic prosperity for Lagos.”

The annual event is the fifth in the series of trainings organised by the Lagos State Drivers Institute, LASDRI, to firm up the capacity of Driving Schools, driving instructors and drivers to upscale the driving attitude of drivers, improve road safety and promote the viability of driving Schools in the State.

Speaking further, Osiyemi commended LASDRI for evolving to meet demands, saying the recent introduction of computer-based recertification tests, the structured three-tier training programmes and the data-backed training processes are clear indicators of LASDRI’s commitment to quality and accountability.

He said, "We also acknowledge LASDRI’s role in supporting other state efforts, such as ensuring drivers’ compliance with the e-Hailing Regulations, the regular EMBER months awareness and the broader safe transport vision under the Ministry of Transportation.

I therefore urge all driving school operators here to fully align with LASDRI’s updated training models and commit to producing drivers that match global standards of professionalism and safety." The commissioner added.

The event was attended by Mrs. Adebisi Adelabu, General Manager, Lagos State Parking Authority and Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, General Manager, Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, LASTMA, represented by Mr. Bolaji Oshodi, who delivered specialized papers.
