Family Sues IGP, Nigeria Police Over Illegal Arrests


 


OLORUNDARE ENIMOLA, Lagos 


Chief Taofeek Oduasanyin,Apewo Oduasanyin and 2 others have sued the IGP and the Nigeria Police for illegal arrests and unlawful detentions at Ota High Court with suit number HCT/669/2025.


The suit alleged that the first and second applicants are the head and principal members of itusi royal family of itusi Baba Ode Ilogbo Otta in Ado odo/ota LGA,Ogun state, stating that their family got judgement in suit no OT/842/2010 and HCT /1A/2011 in Ota High Court upon which execution had been levied and possession handed over to them, but have been subjected to incessant arrests and detentions in the past on the land matter even when several Police reports had vindicated them.


The latest detention of the applicants leading to this suit were for periods ranging from 7 to 16 days at sango Ota Police station and FCID IRT, Abuja without trials and for no justifiable reason other than the land matter upon which they had got judgement in their favour. 


Those sued along with the IGP are the PSO, Mr Lateef Adio Ahmed, a C.P and the policemen and officers who were involved. The Applicants is seeking for N50m each as damages and injunction to stop the vicious cycle of using the coercive instrumentality of the Nigeria Police to oppress, intimidate, arrest and detain the applicants in a purely land matter which the court had decided in their favor up to court of appeal ibadan in CA/IB/10/2017.
