The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has donated 35 hybrid Compressed Natural Gas (CNG)-powered buses to the Presidential Initiative on Compressed Natural Gas (Pi-CNG), reaffirming its commitment to cleaner and more sustainable energy solutions.
Speaking at the handover ceremony, NNPC Ltd’s Group Chief Executive Officer, Mr Bashir Bayo Ojulari, said the gesture aligns with the company’s ongoing efforts to support the Federal Government’s drive to increase gas usage across the country.
He noted that CNG represents a cleaner, cheaper, and more durable alternative to traditional fossil fuels.
Ojulari also highlighted the company’s achievements in gas supply, infrastructure development, distribution, and the establishment of retail outlets across the country.
Also speaking at the event, the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Gas), Hon Ekperikpe Ekpo, described the CNG buses as more than just a transportation solution, calling them “instruments of economic relief, social equity, and environmental responsibility.”
He added that the initiative aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which aims to reduce transportation costs, decrease reliance on petrol, and maximise the nation’s natural gas potential.
The Executive Vice President, Downstream, NNPC Ltd, Mr Mumuni Dagazau, stated that the adoption of CNG as an automotive fuel can yield significant economic benefits, including reduced dependence on petrol and diesel, cost savings, and growth in the local gas sector.
Similarly, the Executive Vice President, Gas, Power & New Energy, Mr Olalekan Ogunleye, reiterated NNPC Ltd’s commitment to leading the country’s CNG commercialisation drive.
Managing Director of NNPC Foundation, Mrs Emmanuella Arukwe, described the initiative as part of the company’s broader efforts to shape a new energy future that supports both community development and environmental sustainability.
Programme Coordinator and Chief Executive Officer of the Presidential CNG Initiative, Mr Michael Oluwagbemi, commended NNPC Ltd for its consistent support, describing the company as a reliable partner since the launch of the initiative.
