MOUN Is The Only Umbrella Body For Motorcycle Operators In Nigeria - Sholebo

OLORUNDARE ENIMOLA, Lagos

Alhaji (Dr) Rasaq Olusola Sotayo, aka Sholebo With Members, President, Motorcycle Operators Union of Nigeria, MOUN, has revealed that though there are many associations created to oversee motorcycle operations across the Country, there is however one body that amalgamates them into one body as a union and known to law.

The transport union expert made the assertion while hosting members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Ota be Online Chapel, adding that there is no union that amalgamates operators of different transport mediums, especially the combination of motorcycle and tricycle riders.

Urging the union of Journalists to establish a cordial working synergy with his union, believing journalists can make the relationship between his members as transporters and those of the public, who enjoy their services, cordial and successful.

Sholebo, who is also the Ogun State Chairman, Riders, Owners of Motorcycle Organization of Nigeria, ROMAN, said,

"I cherish journalists very much. They are responsible for the growth of inividuals, corporate organisations and countries at large, as well as their economies.

"Journalists views are respected and influence people to greatness, therefore those who see journalists as meddlesome interlopers, should have a rethink. Journalists make and shape opinions in various disciplines in the society, I believe they should be respected", he said.

Speaking further, "We want you to continue in your good work by reflecting the happenings in the society. Having you there is a plus to us. If you have issues, call on us. Please help us to establish good relationship between motorcycle riders and members of the public. Your views will erase bad impression they may have harboured against us.

"We have to work hands in hands for the good of the society. We need you to advise us properly. We too will tell you the areas we want you to support us".

According to Sholebo, MOUN takes good care of the welfare of its members in various ways such as giving them motorcycles on higher purchase.

"Besides, we do have regular training for our members; we encourage them to improve themselves educationally, just like I did by going to Kwara State to further my education".

According to MOUN Boss, the issue of resorting to violence to take over control of parks and garages that used to be the order of the day, in the past, is no more, nowadays.

"We have an election process of taking form for election. We train ourselves. We go to schools nowadays, no more violence. No drinking or sale of alcohol at our parks and garages. Okada riders that drink while at work will be disciplined by our task force. Besides we insure our members".

He thanked both the state and the Federal Government for their assistance and solicited for more.

Earlier, Comrade Kayode Taiwo, narrating the purpose of the visit, said journalists were there on their usual courtesy visit to government agencies, corporate organizations, groups, individuals and traditional rulers to formally reflect their activities in the society.

Conveying warm greetings from both NUJ National President, Comrade Alhassan Yahaya and Ogun State Chairman, Comrade Wale Olanrewaju, Comrade Taiwo congratulated Sholebo on his new election as MOUN President.

"We are here as trained senior journalists and NUJ Independent Online Chapel, Ota. We are not just people that hold phones and go about as online writers.

"We want to know more about your Union activities. Most of our members are imbued with wealth of experience in journalism they gained from earlier working in the mainstream national prints and electronics before establishing our online media.
