NSF: TRACE Issues Traffic Advisory On Gateway Games

OLORUNDARE ENIMOLA, Lagos 

The Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency, TRACE, has issued traffic advisory for smooth traffic flow and safety in the course of the 22nd National Sports Festival, tagged "GATEWAY GAMES", hosted by the State and starting from Friday, 16th May, 2025, through Friday, 30th May, 2025.

The advisory is issued in view of the heavy volume of human and vehicular traffic the games is expected to generate along Ogun 18 major traffic corridors, particularly routes within Abeokuta, Ijebu-Ode and Remo axis, which will host some of the sporting activities for the games, and in order not to lose the benefits accruable to the state, as hosting rights, the motoring public and road users are advised to observe traffic rerouting in some locations within Ogun state, particularly Abeokuta, the state capital, which will host the opening and closing ceremonies.  

For the opening ceremony, scheduled to hold on Sunday, 18th May, 2025, at the MKO Abiola International Stadium, Kuto, Abeokuta, road users who have no business along the routes leading to the stadium and its environs should avoid the axis.

Similarly, the route leading to the Alake Sports Centre, Ijeja, where other categories of sporting activities will hold in Abeokuta would be diverted to one-way traffic from Monday, 19th May, 2025, through Friday, 30th May, 2025, for orderliness to prevail. In the same vein, vehicles parked by the roadside along the route should be removed on or before Sunday, 18th May, 2025, to avoid been towed.

Likewise, beats within Sagamu axis marked for use for the Gateway Games activities, including the NYSC Camp Gate; NYSC Camp Parking Gate; RSS Roundabout; Isale Oko Turning; Ita-Oba Junction; High Court Junction and Express Junction (Diversion Points) would be manned by TRACE operatives ditto other security agencies to ensure there is no disorderliness, chaos and obstruction.

Relatedly, routes marked for use within Ikenne and Ilisan environs would also be well maned and devoid of any impediments that could obstruct traffic.

Besides, motorists plying such routes are advised to be more alert to the traffic environment, watch out for signs and information mounted by the roadsides to serve as a guide, drive defensively and approach intersections cautiously, as they look out for athletes, especially cyclists, when  using the road.

Furthermore, for Ijebu-Ode and environs, there would be traffic diversion to guarantee free access and safety of all athletes and other dignitaries to Dipo Dina stadium, Ijebu-Ode. 

Against this backdrop, motorists moving towards Idobi-Idomila axis from Itale-Odoegbo are advised to make a u-turn at Talbot Roundabout enroute Mosun Cafe to link Igbeba road and make a right turn at NTA junction to connect GRA and then pass through Otunba Onanuga street to link Idomila road, while those from Idomila moving towards Palace road and Itale axis are advised  to ply Otunba Onanuga Street,GRA, to link Igbeba and make a right turn at Femtos junction to connect Talbot Roundabout.

Nevertheless, TRACE as well as other security operatives will be deployed along the Ogun 18 major traffic corridors where about 10,000 athletes and officials from the 36 states of the Federation, including the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, will be transiting from Babcock University, Ilisan-Remo, where they would all be camped to ensure effective and integrated traffic management, in order to limit delay, waste man hour and traffic congestion.

While pleading with members of the public and road users for their understanding and  cooperation for any inconveniences some traffic interjections may cause, TRACE assures the strategy put in place would minimize delay, ensure traffic flow and guarantee orderliness for the general public, particularly the motoring public.
