In line with the directives from CDR. Seni Ogunyemi TRACE Corps Commander/CEO to all Command formations to free Ogun roads of encumbrances causing traffic gridlocks, especially road side trading and haphazard parkings, to reduce gridlocks associated with the yuletide, the Ijoko Unit Command commenced the operations on Monday 12, in collaboration with the Vehicle Inspection Service VIO and Department of Traffic Operations DTO of the Nigeria Police, Sango-Ota Area Command.
Officers of the agencies, cleared the roads under the Sango overhead Bridge involving those engaged in roadside commercial activities on the Lagos-Abeokuta expressway outbound Sango to Lagos axis, Sango-Ijoko road axis, and those lining the expressway inbound Abeokuta axis.
In his address, CDR. Ajibade Adekunle who was represented by Cdr. Aduroja Ariyo, Unit Commander, TRACE, Ijoko Unit Command, said, "The TRACE Corps Commander, CDR. Ogunyemi has directed the clearing of the roads of traders, Okada riders and other elements to enhance the safety of those involved in the Illegal trading and other road users as yuletide beckons, and the need to free our roads for accelerated traffic flow."
In a separate interview with DAILY INDEPENDENT, Oluwatoyin Olugbenga, Zonal Commander, VIS, Ogun West, said, "This excercise is very important, owing to the perenial traffic gridlocks experienced by users of this axis apperantly caused by those engaged in commercial activities by the road side."
She reitrated that the joint operations will be sustained over time to ensure sustainability of the success attained.
Otunba Adeyemi Jackson, an executive member of Riders and Owners of Tricycle Organisation ROTO, while reacting to the operation, described it as a welcomed development, but lamented that commercial transport operators are often pushed further into the road by the recalcitrant traders who keep advancing from their position at the back. He also called on the government to provide garages for the union as a panacea to clearing them off the roadsides.
