Taskforce Raids Obalende, Marina Blackspots, Arrests 30 Suspects

The Lagos State Taskforce has arrested more than 30 suspected criminals, drug peddlers and street urchins during a raid on identified blackspots in Obalende, Marina and other parts of Lagos Island.

The enforcement operation, led by the Chairman of the Taskforce, CSP Adetayo Akerele, was conducted as part of the agency’s efforts to tackle criminal activities, environmental violations and public nuisances across the state.

The Taskforce said the operation was carried out in the early hours of the day following the identification of areas allegedly associated with criminal activities and environmental infractions.

During the exercise, operatives reportedly apprehended over 30 suspects accused of disturbing public peace and allegedly attempting to engage in criminal activities within Obalende and Marina.

The agency also said some of those arrested were linked to activities capable of damaging or threatening public infrastructure, including road signs and billboards.

According to the Taskforce, substances suspected to be illicit drugs, including Indian hemp, marijuana, codeine and Colorado, were recovered from some of the suspects.

The agency said the arrested individuals would be processed and charged to court in accordance with the law.

Speaking during the operation, Akerele commended residents and indigenes of Obalende for their role in monitoring activities within the community and supporting efforts to prevent criminals from using the area as a hideout.

He stressed that community participation remained essential to sustaining security and environmental order across Lagos, urging residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to the appropriate authorities.

The Taskforce chairman also cautioned residents against harbouring individuals involved in street violence and other criminal activities, urging communities to take greater responsibility for their security environment.

Akerele reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to enforcing the Lagos State Environmental Protection Law of 2017, warning that individuals who violate environmental regulations or engage in criminal activities would be prosecuted.

The Taskforce said the operation formed part of the state government’s broader efforts to eliminate environmental nuisances, criminal hideouts and street disorder and make Lagos cleaner, safer and more habitable for residents.
