OLORUNDARE ENIMOLA, Lagos
The Chief of Staff to the Senator representing Ogun West, High Chief Kayode Odunaro, has called on residents of Ogun West Senatorial District to unite behind Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola (Yayi), saying the district has a historic opportunity to produce the next governor of Ogun State after more than five decades.
Odunaro made the appeal on Thursday during a ward meeting and grassroots mobilisation exercise held at Ilaro Ward 2, Igbo-Ewe, in Yewa South Local Government Area, where party members and supporters of the All Progressives Congress (APC) gathered ahead of the 2027 governorship election.
Addressing the gathering, Odunaro described Senator Adeola as a leader with a proven record of performance, noting that his contributions to infrastructure, education, healthcare and economic empowerment had distinguished him among elected public office holders in the state.
He recalled his association with the senator spanning more than 14 years, during which, according to him, Adeola consistently demonstrated commitment to the development of Ogun West and Ogun State.
Among the projects highlighted by Odunaro were the elevation of the Oronna Ilaro Festival into a nationally and internationally recognised cultural tourism event, as well as the ongoing efforts to transform the Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro, into a Federal University of Technology.
He also cited the senator's interventions in road construction, modern markets, healthcare facilities, school infrastructure and empowerment programmes, describing them as unprecedented achievements for a legislator.
Odunaro urged party members to sustain aggressive grassroots mobilisation, encouraging them to take the APC campaign to every household and community in order to secure overwhelming support for the party in the 2027 polls.
He argued that the principle of fairness and equity supported the aspiration of Ogun West to produce the state's next governor, noting that the senatorial district had waited for over 50 years to occupy the office.
"I am sure all of us here are for Yayi. But we need to convince many more people that Yayi is the best man for the job on the basis of proven competence, integrity, equity and fair play," Odunaro said.
Also speaking, the Vice Chairman of Yewa South Local Government, Hon. Bankole Sherifdeen Olarenwaju, reaffirmed his commitment to mobilising support for Senator Adeola, expressing confidence that the APC would secure victory in the next governorship election.
According to him, the local government administration is complementing the developmental initiatives of both the Ogun State Government and Senator Adeola through projects aimed at improving the lives of residents.
Former Chairman of Yewa South Local Government, Alhaji Sunmola Kayode Adewale, also declared his support for the senator, describing him as the candidate capable of ending what he termed the more than 50-year political jinx that has prevented Ogun West from producing a governor.
Adewale disclosed that although he had been a long-standing member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), he resolved to support Adeola once he emerged as the APC governorship candidate.
"I am a long-standing member of PDP, but I made a vow that once Yayi is chosen as the candidate, I will join his team, and I did," he said, urging residents to rally behind the senator's governorship aspiration.
The meeting attracted several APC leaders and stakeholders, including the Chairman of Ilaro Ward 2, Hon. Ademola Ogunsola; Major Abiola Amore (retd.); Elhadj Abu-Satar Idowu Hamed, Publisher of StarTrend International Magazine; Chief Leke Ibikunle; Barrister Ayo Ajibola; and other party executives, community leaders, youth representatives and women leaders.
The ward meeting formed part of the APC's ongoing grassroots mobilisation campaign as political activities continue to gather momentum ahead of the 2027 Ogun State governorship election.
