ABUJA – President Bola Tinubu has approved the immediate construction of a new road linking Kaba, Kagini and Zaudna communities in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), reaffirming his administration's commitment to ending abandoned infrastructure projects in the nation's capital.
The President gave the approval on Thursday during the commissioning of the rehabilitated Old Keffi Road, a major corridor stretching from Kado Village through Life Camp to Dei-Dei Junction on the Outer Northern Expressway.
Represented by Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Tinubu said the new project followed appeals from residents who displayed banners highlighting the poor state of roads serving their communities.
He said the Renewed Hope Agenda remains focused on delivering inclusive infrastructure across the FCT, including underserved districts and area councils.
"We are not slowing down. Across the FCT, from the city centre to the area councils, we are building for inclusion, safety and growth. Every district deserves access, and every citizen deserves to feel the impact of government," the President stated.
Tinubu described the completion of the Old Keffi Road as further proof of his administration's determination to complete critical projects inherited from previous governments.
According to him, the rehabilitated road, which serves Kado, Saburi, Gwagwa, Idu, Karmo and Dei-Dei communities, is equipped with modern drainage facilities and street lighting under the "Light Up Abuja" initiative to improve safety and stimulate economic activities.
The President explained that the Federal Executive Council approved the road project after the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, highlighted the deteriorating condition of the strategic economic route.
He commended Lubrik Construction Company Limited for delivering the project to specification, noting that the administration rewards competence and quality service delivery.
Tinubu also praised Wike for accelerating infrastructure development across the FCT, describing him as a results-driven administrator whose efforts have transformed both the city centre and satellite communities.
He equally acknowledged the contributions of the Minister of State for FCT, Mariya Mahmoud, and the Federal Capital Territory Administration for ensuring the project's timely completion.
The President urged residents to protect public infrastructure by preventing vandalism of streetlights and keeping drainage channels free from refuse.
Earlier, Wike said the rehabilitation fulfilled a longstanding promise made to residents and traders who had repeatedly requested the reconstruction of the Old Keffi Road after the completion of the Saburi Road.
He recalled that during the Area Council election campaigns, traders appealed to him to convey their request to the President, assuring him of their appreciation if the project was completed.
The minister announced that Tinubu had also approved the immediate construction of the Kaba-Kagini-Zaudna road after residents renewed their appeal during Thursday's event.
He directed the Executive Secretary of the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA) to mobilise Lubrik Construction Company to commence work on the new road without delay.
Wike said the swift approval reflects the administration's commitment to responding promptly to critical infrastructure needs and restoring public confidence through the Renewed Hope Agenda.
He expressed appreciation to President Tinubu for approving both the rehabilitation of the Old Keffi Road and the new road project, assuring residents that construction would begin immediately.
