The Lagos State Taskforce has intensified its crackdown on criminal activities with the arrest of 46 suspected offenders during a coordinated enforcement operation across strategic locations in the state.
The operation, carried out on Friday, formed part of the agency's sustained efforts to rid Lagos of street urchins, drug peddlers, miscreants, illegal commercial motorcycle operators, street traders, illegal ticket sellers, and other individuals engaged in unlawful activities.
The enforcement team raided Muri-Okunola Park in Victoria Island, Obalende Underbridge, Law School Junction, Maroko, Sandfill near Mobil Bus Stop, and Marwa Bus Stop along the Lekki-Epe Expressway.
During the operation, officers recovered substances suspected to be Indian hemp, Colorado and cannabis, a UTC cutlass, and a locally fabricated dane gun resembling a pistol. The agency noted that the weapon was incapable of firing live ammunition.
Officials said the operation successfully restored order to all the affected areas.
Speaking at the Lagos State Taskforce headquarters, the Chairman of the agency, CSP Adetayo Akerele, reaffirmed the government's resolve to sustain the enforcement exercise across the state.
He warned that individuals involved in criminal activities would continue to face the full weight of the law, stressing that the Taskforce would not relent in its efforts to keep Lagos safe and orderly.
According to the agency, all 46 suspects will be prosecuted in line with the provisions of the Lagos State Environmental Management and Protection Law, 2017, and the Lagos State Transport Sector Reform Law, 2018.
