Residents of Romi and other communities benefiting from ongoing road construction projects in Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State have applauded the state government for the infrastructure initiative, describing it as a major boost to transportation, economic activities, and overall living conditions.
During an inspection of the projects, the Managing Director of the Kaduna Roads Agency, Abdullahi Baba-Ahmed, assured residents that the roads were being constructed to durable standards. He expressed confidence that most of the projects would be completed before the end of the rainy season.
Residents said the projects would address years of poor road infrastructure that had hindered movement and economic development in the area.
One of the residents, Nuhu Shagaya, described the projects as people-centred, noting that the improved roads would ease the transportation of farm produce and enhance access to schools, markets, healthcare facilities, and other essential services.
He recalled that poor roads and seasonal flooding had posed significant challenges to residents for years and appealed to the government to urgently address erosion and improve drainage systems in affected communities.
The Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Romi Chapter, Rev. Stephen Ibrahim, commended Governor Uba Sani for fulfilling his promise to rehabilitate the area's road network.
According to him, the quality of work already executed reflects the government's commitment to delivering durable infrastructure that will improve the standard of living for residents.
The community's Youth Leader, Michael Yahya, said previous administrations had failed to address the area's road challenges despite repeated appeals. He expressed optimism that the ongoing projects would stimulate economic growth, attract investment, and create employment opportunities for young people.
Also speaking, Chairman of the community committee liaising with the contractor, Rev. Adam Bello, described the road projects as transformational, saying Romi had suffered years of neglect despite its proximity to the Kaduna metropolis.
He said the new roads would improve the community's image and restore public confidence in government, while pledging residents' continued support for the administration.
Another resident, Mrs. Mercy Bulus, thanked the state government for embarking on the projects, saying the improved road network would boost commercial activities, ease transportation, and enhance the quality of life for residents.
The road projects are expected to improve connectivity and support socio-economic development across the benefiting communities upon completion.
