FCTA Moves to End Illegal Parks, Directs Commercial Vehicles to Mabushi Terminal

The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has reiterated its commitment to eliminating illegal motor parks and improving security in Abuja by ensuring full utilisation of the newly constructed Mabushi Bus and Taxi Terminal.

The Mandate Secretary of the FCTA Transportation Secretariat, Chinedum Elechi, made this known during the continuation of an enforcement operation at the unauthorised motor park popularly known as Jabi Upstairs.

Represented by Usman Abdulmumin, Elechi said the exercise is part of the directive of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, to dismantle illegal motor parks and rid the city of criminal elements operating from unauthorised transport locations.

He explained that the enforcement exercise, which began on July 1, requires all commercial vehicles to operate only from the Mabushi Bus and Taxi Terminal.

According to him, vehicles impounded during the operation will be released after their owners complete the required documentation and sign an undertaking not to return to illegal loading points.

"We will release the vehicles after the necessary documentation has been completed and the owners have pledged not to return to illegal parks," he said.

Also speaking, the Secretary of the FCTA Command and Control Centre, Dr Peter Olumuji, described illegal motor parks as a major threat to public safety and order in the nation's capital.

He noted that personnel from the FCT Security Services Department are participating in the enforcement exercise to ensure compliance with the ban, stressing that effective security enforcement is essential to sustaining the operation.

Olumuji added that since activities commenced at the Mabushi Bus and Taxi Terminal, public transportation in the FCT has become more organised, orderly and secure.

The Director of Transport Planning and Institutional Development at Planet Projects Limited, Demola Olawepo, said the terminal is equipped with adequate security and operational facilities to ensure the safety and convenience of commuters.

He added that the establishment of the modern transport hub has significantly reduced criminal activities previously associated with commercial transport operations in Abuja.

A commuter, Hamzat Gumil, commended the FCT Administration for introducing the coordinated transport system, describing his first experience at the terminal as organised and satisfactory.
