The Lagos State Environmental and Special Offences (Enforcement) Unit, popularly known as the Lagos Taskforce, has arrested 33 suspects during a coordinated raid aimed at curbing crime and environmental violations across parts of the state.
The operation, conducted in the early hours of Monday, July 27, targeted locations identified as hotspots for criminal activities, including Ikate Bus Stop, Marwa Bus Stop, Muri Okunola Park in Victoria Island, Obalende Underbridge, Law School Junction, and adjoining areas along the Lekki-Epe Expressway.
According to the agency, the enforcement exercise focused on street urchins, suspected drug peddlers and users, illegal commercial motorcyclists, street traders, ticket touts, and other individuals whose activities were considered a threat to public safety and environmental order.
The Taskforce said officers recovered suspected illicit substances, including Tramadol, Indian hemp, Colorado, marijuana, and cannabis, as well as dangerous weapons such as cutlasses and scissors.
It added that normalcy had been restored in the affected areas following the operation, while all suspects arrested have been charged before the appropriate courts under relevant provisions of the Lagos State Environmental Management and Protection Law, 2017, and the Lagos State Transport Sector Reform Law, 2018.
Speaking after the operation, the Chairman of the Lagos State Taskforce, CSP Adetayo Akerele, reaffirmed the agency's determination to sustain the crackdown on criminal activities across the state.
He warned individuals involved in criminal acts to either abandon such activities or leave Lagos, stressing that the state government would continue to enforce its laws to ensure a safe and orderly environment for residents.
Akerele also directed Taskforce officers to intensify intelligence-led enforcement operations, noting that the agency remains committed to eliminating criminal elements and maintaining law and order throughout the state.
