The Ogun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has dismissed allegations questioning the indigeneship of Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, describing the claims as baseless and politically motivated.
In a statement issued on Thursday in Abeokuta by the party’s Publicity Secretary, Comrade Nuberu Adesanya Olufemi, the APC condemned comments reportedly made by the spokesperson of the Ladi Adebutu Democratic Organisation (LADO), Afolabi Orekoya, during a radio programme on a private FM station in Ilese-Ijebu.
The party described the remarks portraying Senator Adeola as a non-indigene of Ogun State as “reckless, mischievous and contrary to constitutional provisions.”
According to the APC, the allegations were part of efforts to divert public attention from the internal crisis currently affecting the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ogun State.
The ruling party maintained that Senator Adeola, who currently represents Ogun West Senatorial District in the National Assembly, has both maternal and paternal roots in Ogun State, spanning Abeokuta and Yewaland.
It added that the claims against the senator were inconsistent with constitutional provisions relating to citizenship and eligibility for elective office.
The APC advised the PDP and its affiliates to focus on resolving their internal challenges instead of attacking political opponents.
The statement further alleged that the PDP crisis had intensified with the defection of several key stakeholders to the APC, including former Ogun PDP Chairman, Hon. Sikirulai Ogundele, and some members of the PDP caucus in the Ogun State House of Assembly.
The party also criticised supporters of PDP governorship aspirant, Hon. Ladi Adebutu, accusing them of engaging in what it described as unfounded political attacks.
The APC further referenced the ongoing court case involving Adebutu over alleged vote-buying and money laundering linked to the 2023 Ogun governorship election.
Highlighting achievements of the APC-led administration under Governor Dapo Abiodun, the party cited ongoing road projects, industrial growth and the development of the Gateway International Agro-Cargo Airport along the Ilishan-Iperu axis.
The APC stated that Ogun residents would support continuity and sustainable development ahead of the 2027 governorship election, insisting that Senator Adeola remained a leading contender based on his grassroots engagements, constituency projects and development agenda.
