OLORUNDARE ENIMOLA, Lagos
The Nigerian Association of Road Transport Owners (NARTO) has issued a strong advisory to truck operators and motorists ahead of a major environmental and traffic decongestion exercise scheduled to take place around the Lagos ports axis by the Presidential Enabling Business Environment Council (PEBEC).
In a notice made available to members on Tuesday, the association disclosed that the clean-up and enforcement operation will be conducted from Thursday, May 14 to Friday, May 15, 2026.
NARTO urged truck drivers and other road users who have no legitimate business within the port vicinity to steer clear of the affected routes throughout the duration of the exercise.
The association also warned that articulated vehicles found obstructing traffic or illegally stationed along designated port access roads would be impounded by enforcement officials, while owners would bear the cost of towing and other associated penalties.
According to the statement, the directive followed resolutions reached during a virtual stakeholders’ engagement convened earlier by the Director-General of PEBEC.
NARTO therefore appealed to its members to strictly comply with the directive in order to avoid avoidable sanctions, delays, and operational inconveniences during the enforcement period.
The exercise is part of broader initiatives targeted at restoring orderliness, enhancing sanitation, easing gridlock, and improving overall efficiency within the Lagos ports corridor.
