The Lagos State Taskforce has dismissed claims linking its operatives to alleged traffic-related arrests around the Sheraton Link Bridge inward Opebi and along Toyin Street, describing the reports as false and misleading.
In a statement issued by its Director of Public Affairs, Gbadeyan Abdulraheem, the agency said it had been alerted to a viral “travel guide” circulating online, which alleged that Taskforce officials were stationed in the affected areas to apprehend motorists making turns.
The agency, however, categorically denied the claims, stating that they were unsubstantiated and aimed at tarnishing its image and that of its leadership.
According to the statement, the Taskforce had, since April 1, 2026, suspended traffic enforcement operations across the state in compliance with a directive from the Commissioner of Police, Fatai Tijani. The directive, it noted, was issued to maintain law and order and ensure public peace.
The agency explained that its current operations are focused on environmental enforcement and the arrest of criminal elements, including miscreants, street urchins, and drug addicts, rather than traffic violations.
It further warned that any individuals or groups impersonating Taskforce officials to carry out illegal enforcement activities would be arrested and prosecuted.
The Taskforce urged residents to disregard the circulating claims and advised members of the public to report suspicious activities through its official contact lines.
The agency reiterated its commitment to enforcing the law and maintaining order across Lagos State.
