The Rotary Club of Lekki–Novare has carried out two community development initiatives in Eti-Osa Local Government Area of Lagos State aimed at empowering residents with practical skills and promoting a healthier learning environment for students.
The projects, which included a one-day skill acquisition training and a fumigation exercise at a secondary school, were organised as part of the club’s commitment to community service and sustainable development.
The first programme, an Economic and Community Development project, was held on January 22, 2026, at the Southgold College Event Hall in Hopeville Estate, Sangotedo.
The initiative provided free training for community members on the production of household items such as air fresheners, soap, detergents and disinfectants.
The training was designed to equip participants with practical, income-generating skills that could support self-employment and small-scale entrepreneurship.
About 15 participants attended the programme, including members of the Rotary Club of Lekki–Novare and representatives of the host community.
Participants expressed enthusiasm about the opportunity to learn new skills that could help improve their economic prospects.
Speaking during the event, the United President Rtn Amaka Ogboh, President of the Rotary Club of Lekki–Novare, commended the initiative as a practical demonstration of Rotary’s commitment to community service and development.
According to her, initiatives that empower individuals with skills while promoting public health are essential for sustainable community growth.
“The programme reflects Rotary’s dedication to improving lives through service. By equipping participants with practical skills, we are helping to create opportunities for self-reliance and economic empowerment within the community,” she said.
The Project Chair, Chinelo Okonkwo, noted that such initiatives help promote productivity and economic resilience among residents.
She also thanked members of the club for their commitment and support in ensuring the successful execution of the programme.
The club’s Public Image Chair, Michael Obilor, also commended the leadership of the club and the dedication of members who contributed to the success of the project.
One of the beneficiaries, Chidinma Ndubuisi, expressed appreciation to the club, saying the training had opened up new opportunities for her.
According to her, the knowledge gained from the programme will enable her venture into the production of household detergents, a product with strong demand in homes and businesses.
The club also appreciated the management of Southgold College, led by Rotarian Cynthia Amukamara, for providing the venue for the training programme.
In a related development, the Rotary Club of Lekki–Novare on March 7, 2026, carried out a fumigation exercise at Okuh-Ajah Community Secondary School in Okuh-Ajah, Eti-Osa, Lagos.
The exercise was undertaken to eliminate mosquitoes, insects and other harmful pests within the school premises in order to reduce the risk of vector-borne diseases and promote a safer learning environment for students and teachers.
The School Principal, Mrs. Oyedele Bridget Ngozi commended the Rotary Club for the intervention, noting that the exercise would help reduce the presence of mosquitoes and other pests within the school environment.
She said the initiative would create a healthier and more comfortable environment for teaching and learning.
A student of the school, Grace Adeyemi, also expressed gratitude to the club, saying the fumigation would help keep classrooms and surroundings free from insects and mosquitoes, enabling students to concentrate better during lessons.
The Rotary Club of Lekki–Novare extended appreciation to the management and staff of Okuh-Ajah Community Secondary School for their cooperation and support during the exercise.
The club also commended its President, Amaka Ogboh, and Project Chair, Chinelo Okonkwo, for their leadership and dedication in coordinating the initiatives.
According to the club, such projects reflect Rotary’s guiding principle of “Service Above Self” and its commitment to improving community health, education and environmental well-being through impactful service initiatives.
