The Ogun State Government has unveiled plans to construct a ₦1 billion Artificial Intelligence-enabled digital learning complex at Remo Secondary School, Sagamu, as part of efforts to deepen technology-driven education in the state.
Governor Dapo Abiodun disclosed the initiative during activities marking the school’s 80th anniversary, describing the proposed 900-capacity facility as a strategic investment in modern learning infrastructure aimed at equipping students with skills required in a rapidly evolving, knowledge-based global economy.
According to the governor, the digital classroom project will complement existing smart-education initiatives within the institution, which already boasts a functional resource centre and a state-of-the-art robotics laboratory designed to foster innovation, critical thinking, and digital proficiency among students.
Reaffirming his administration’s commitment to the growth of the school, Abiodun announced a financial pledge of ₦100 million towards ongoing development efforts. He said ₦50 million, representing half of the pledged amount, would be released immediately to kick-start the projects.
The governor assured stakeholders that at least one of the outlined projects would be completed before the end of his administration.
Abiodun further disclosed that the state government had recently upgraded the school’s science laboratories with modern equipment and teaching tools to enhance practical learning and ensure safer laboratory experiences for students.
He added that renovation works had been completed on the male and female hostels to improve accommodation standards, strengthen security, and promote the overall well-being of boarding students.
Describing Remo Secondary School as a symbol of enduring heritage, Abiodun noted that the 80th anniversary celebration was not merely a commemoration of longevity but a recognition of the institution’s longstanding contributions to nurturing leaders and professionals across various sectors.
He commended members of the Old Students’ Association for their sustained support and contributions to the development of the school, saying their involvement reflects a shared commitment to preserving its legacy of excellence.
The governor said the ongoing projects underscore the administration’s belief in education as a critical foundation for sustainable growth, as well as the importance of collaboration between government, alumni, and the wider community.
He also revealed that Remo Secondary School had been designated as one of Ogun State’s model schools and urged students to remain focused on their studies, uphold strong moral values, and sustain the tradition of excellence for which the institution is renowned.
