The Abeokuta Coral Lions Club, in collaboration with the Federal College of Education (FCE) Leo Club, has organised a Hunger Relief Awareness Campaign at the FCE Osiele campus in Abeokuta to address food insecurity among students.
The initiative, held on January 29, formed part of Lions Clubs International’s global hunger relief drive under District 404B3 Nigeria. Activities included the distribution of food items, nutritional education sessions, and awareness talks aimed at supporting students facing economic hardship.
Speaking through the Second Vice President, Lion Temitope Oyebola (NLCF), the Club President, Lion Babajide Olaleye, reaffirmed the organisation’s commitment to humanitarian service.
He said the campaign was designed to “serve where the need is greatest,” noting that the intervention sought to nourish hope and strengthen students’ resilience amid prevailing economic challenges.
The FCE Leo Club provided logistical support and coordinated peer-to-peer engagement to ensure effective outreach and participation among students.
The president expressed appreciation to key donors and supporters, including Lion Oloyede Abidemi, Chairman of the Global Service Committee; Hon. Ogunshina Adesina, MJF, NLCF, Chairman of Obafemi Owode Local Government; and Engr. Idowu Olayinka, Chairman of Springview International, for their contributions of food items.
He also acknowledged the support of club members both within Nigeria and in the diaspora.
As part of efforts to ensure sustainability, the club announced plans to establish a student-led food bank at FCE Osiele to provide ongoing assistance to vulnerable students.
The initiative underscores the role of community-based partnerships in tackling food insecurity, a challenge that continues to affect many Nigerians.
