Royal fathers, political leaders, clerics and community stakeholders on Tuesday converged in Ilaro, headquarters of the Ogun West Senatorial District, for the foundation-laying ceremony of the proposed ultra-modern Yewa Traditional Council (Obas’) Secretariat Complex, a project facilitated by the Senator representing Ogun West at the National Assembly, Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola (Yayi).
The ceremony, which marked the formal commencement of construction, attracted widespread commendations, prayers and royal blessings for Senator Adeola from traditional rulers across Yewaland, as well as leaders and members of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Stakeholders described the project as a significant step in strengthening traditional institutions, preserving cultural heritage and promoting grassroots development in Yewaland.
They noted that the secretariat, when completed, would serve as a central hub for traditional governance, foster unity among royal institutions and reduce the need for monarchs to travel to Abeokuta for official engagements.
Speaking at the event, the Olu of Ilaro and Paramount Ruler of Yewaland, His Royal Majesty Oba (Dr.) Kehinde Gbadewole Olugbenle, Asade Agunloye IV, praised Senator Adeola for what he described as far-reaching developmental interventions across Yewaland and Ogun State.
He urged political actors to embrace unity and cooperation, stressing that collective resolve was essential to the aspiration of producing a Yewa indigene as governor in 2027.
Oba Olugbenle also called on residents to participate actively in the democratic process by obtaining their Permanent Voter’s Cards (PVCs) ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The Deputy Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. (Chief) Mrs. Lateefat Bolanle Ajayi, described Senator Adeola as an exceptional son of Yewaland whose impact, she said, extended beyond Ogun West to other parts of the state. She urged continued support for his political leadership.
Religious leaders, including Imam Mohammed Tijani Jamiu, Chief Imam of Surulere Central Mosque, Ilaro-Yewa, and the Diocesan Bishop of the Anglican Communion, Rt. Revd. M. A. Oluwarohunbi, offered prayers for Senator Adeola, the royal fathers and the successful completion of the project, describing the initiative as timely and symbolic.
The Chairman of Yewa South Local Government, Hon. Tunde Ogunshola, said the project was unprecedented in scope, adding that it was being executed with the support of the Ogun State Government under Governor Dapo Abiodun. Similarly, the Ogun State Chairman of Cultural Development, Hon. Olayiwola Taiwo, said the initiative marked a turning point for infrastructural development in Ogun West.
Several traditional rulers, including the Olofin Adimula of Ado-Odo, Oba Idris Olusola Lamidi Osolo; the Abepa of Joga-Orile, Oba Adeyemi Adekeye; and the Onimeko of Imeko, Oba Benjamin Olanite, commended the initiative and expressed optimism that more development projects would follow.
APC leaders in Ogun West, led by the party’s zonal chairman, Alhaji Azeez Adisa, also lauded Senator Adeola’s role in attracting federal presence and infrastructure to the region, calling on party members to strengthen grassroots mobilisation and voter registration efforts.
At the peak of the ceremony, Oba Olugbenle and other royal fathers offered prayers for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Governor Dapo Abiodun, Senator Adeola and other political office holders, seeking divine guidance and success in governance.
The event, attended by traditional rulers, political leaders, community stakeholders and religious representatives from across Yewaland, culminated in the formal laying of the foundation stone, signalling what participants described as a new chapter in the institutional and cultural development of the region.
