A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Chairman of Afisola Nigeria Limited, Chief Muftau Olabimtan, has said that no known governorship aspirant in Ogun State currently possesses the political reach, influence and grassroots appeal to effectively challenge Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola ahead of the 2027 governorship election.
Olabimtan, who is also the Chairman of the Yewa Frontier Group and the Asoju Olu of Ilaro, made the assertion while speaking with journalists during an interaction at the Yewa Frontier Hotel along the Ilaro–Abeokuta Road in Ilaro-Yewa.
He said Senator Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, stands out in the evolving political landscape of Ogun State due to his extensive political network, proven electoral experience and strong grassroots connections across the state.
According to him, the senator’s political pedigree, legislative record and statewide visibility have placed him in a commanding position as discussions surrounding the 2027 governorship election continue to gain momentum.
“At the moment, I have not seen any other aspirant who can compete effectively with Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola across Ogun State,”
Olabimtan said.
The community leader noted that Adeola, who currently chairs the Senate Committee on Appropriation, has played a significant role in repositioning Yewa and Ogun West at both state and national levels. He added that the senator’s influence transcends senatorial boundaries, with projects and political engagements spread across the three senatorial districts of the state.
“Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola has repositioned Yewa politically and has the capacity to go far. His landmarks in Yewaland and across Ogun State are visible,” he said.
Olabimtan added that the visibility of these interventions has made Adeola a familiar figure in many communities.
“Yayi has become a household name, not just in Yewa or Ogun West, but across Ogun State,” he said.
He also dismissed claims that leaders from Yewaland are not engaging in political negotiations with other zones in their bid to secure the governorship seat for the region, describing such claims as misleading.
According to him, political consultations and negotiations are ongoing, stressing that politics thrives on dialogue, compromise and strategic alliances.
“The narrative that Yewa leaders are not negotiating with other districts is false. Politics is about negotiation and compromise, and engagements are ongoing,” he said.
Olabimtan urged political observers to avoid speculation, noting that many consultations often take place quietly before becoming public.
Observers say renewed political confidence in Yewaland has been bolstered by increased federal presence, infrastructural interventions and sustained advocacy for a power shift in Ogun State. Many stakeholders believe the zone deserves a stronger voice in the state’s leadership after years of perceived marginalisation.
Although Senator Adeola has yet to officially declare his governorship ambition, his name continues to feature prominently in political discussions across the state, with supporters citing his legislative influence, cross-regional connections and development initiatives as key strengths.
As the 2027 general elections draw nearer, political activities and alignments across Ogun State are expected to intensify.
For Olabimtan, however, the political picture remains clear. “The political space is open and discussions are ongoing, but as it stands today, Yayi’s reach across Ogun State is unmatched,” he said.LOYAMP
