Chief Bode Mustapha, the Osi of Egbaland, has declared that his support in the 2027 Ogun State governorship election will be based strictly on competence, proven performance and commitment to development, rather than sentiment or lineage.
Mustapha stated this during a live interview on Splash FM, Abeokuta, hosted by Ayomide Adetunji, popularly known as Mr. Quality.
Speaking on the emerging political landscape ahead of the 2027 polls, the respected Egba leader said only an active, effective and visionary candidate deserves the support of well-meaning stakeholders in the state.
He noted that although some governorship aspirants, including former Nigerian High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, Ambassador Sharafa Tunji Ishola, and former Commissioner for Sports, Bukola Olopade, share family and ancestral ties with him through their Abeokuta roots, such relationships would not influence his political decision.
According to him, Ogun State politics must rise above sentiment and primordial considerations, stressing that a candidate’s achievements and capacity to deliver good governance should be the determining factors.
“There should be no discrimination on the basis of origin. What matters most is competence, track record and the ability to deliver meaningful development,” he said.
Chief Mustapha particularly commended Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola (Yayi), describing his contributions to Ogun State’s development—especially in Yewaland and other parts of the state—as outstanding and impactful.
He said Adeola’s projects and interventions across constituencies have distinguished him as a leader with visible and measurable achievements.
Reacting to discussions surrounding Adeola’s advocacy for power rotation and the push for the next governor to emerge from Yewaland, Mustapha said the call was rooted in equity, fairness and inclusive governance.
He argued that Yewaland has long been marginalised in the state’s leadership structure and deserves the opportunity to produce the next governor.
According to him, power rotation remains essential for balanced representation and sustainable unity in Ogun State.
The Osi of Egbaland reaffirmed his support for Senator Adeola, saying Ogun State needs a governor with competence, vision and a record of results.
“Ogun deserves leadership driven by performance. Only a candidate with visible achievements and clear developmental vision should be entrusted with the governorship,” he added.
Chief Bode Mustapha, a prominent politician, philanthropist and influential Egba leader, is known for his strong role within the All Progressives Congress (APC) and his consistent advocacy for good governance.
He remains vocal on state and national issues and is widely regarded as a key voice in Egba affairs, providing strategic guidance and promoting unity within the community.
In recent times, Mustapha has openly endorsed Senator Adeola’s governorship ambition, emphasising the need for unity, competence and performance-based leadership as Ogun State prepares for the 2027 elections.
