LASTMA Becoming Model Of Excellence, Worth Emulating - Acting TRACE Commander General

Cdr Elias Omonayajo, the Acting Commander General/Chief Executive Officer, the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency, TRACE has said, LASTMA is fast becoming a model of excellence, managing the traffic complexities of a mega city with grit, professionalism, and innovation that is worth celebrating and emulation.

Cdr. Omonayajo gave the remarks through Cdr. Babatunde Akinbiyi, the TRACE, PRO, during an exclusive interview with Journalists on Tuesday at the 25 years anniversary of the creation of Lagos Traffic Management Agency LASTMA, held in Eko Hotel and Suites, Lagos, saying, “the management and the entire operatives of TRACE extends warm congratulations to LASTMA as the authority marks its 25th anniversary.”

Cdr Babatunde Akinbiyi, in company of; Cdr  Morolake Filani, Olusola Ojuoro, Kabir Ojerinde, Ojo-Oloye T I, Lasisi K.A, Hammed Salau and others, represented Cdr. Elias Omonayajo, who further said, “As a sister agency, TRACE  proudly acknowledges and commends the critical role LASTMA has played in shaping traffic management practices not only in Lagos but across Nigeria. Your efforts continue to inspire and shape best practices across the nation.

“As we celebrate your journey so far, we also reaffirm our commitment to continued collaboration; working side by side to build safer and more efficient roadways for all." Cdr. Omonayajo added.

Speaking at the event, which is the second in the series of Traffic Conference, Hon. Sola Giwa, the Special Adviser to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Transportation, revealed that Lagos residents lose an estimated N1 trillion annually to productivity lost in traffic gridlock, with commuters spending an average of six hours daily on the road.

Giwa made the disclosure on Tuesday during the flag-off of the Second Lagos Traffic Conference, held at the Eko Hotel and Suites, Victoria Island, as part of activities marking the 25th anniversary (Silver Jubilee) of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA).

He also noted that LASTMA has helped recover at least N4 billion in productivity previously lost to traffic congestion in the state.

Themed “Enhancing Traffic Efficiency and Safety on Lagos Roads: Challenges, Opportunities, and Innovations,” the three-day conference was officially declared open by Governor Sanwo-Olu, represented by his deputy, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat.

The event attracted a high-profile gathering of transportation experts, policymakers, technocrats, academics, urban development consultants, law enforcement officials, private sector stakeholders, and international partners. Participants are expected to critically examine the persistent challenges and emerging opportunities in Lagos’ transportation and mobility sector.

Highlighting a major milestone at the event, General Manager of LASTMA, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, formally unveiled the Lagos State 20-Year Strategic Traffic Management Policy — a visionary roadmap designed to restructure the state’s transportation framework. The plan aims to enhance infrastructural efficiency, strengthen enforcement systems, and integrate smart mobility technologies across the state.
