Itele town was on agog Friday, during the handing over of the newly constructed Police Station built to host the Zonal Scorpion Squad Base of the Nigeria Police, a special anti criminal offences squad, operating directly under the office of the Assistant Inspector General of Police, Zone 2, AIG Adegoke Fayoade.
The event brought notable sons and daughters of the town and other Awori indigenes from far and near who expressed strong commendation for the construction of the Police Station, saying it is a testament to the passionate desire of Itele indigenes to fast track the development of the town.
Oba (Prof) Abdul-Kabir Obalanlege, the Olota of Ota, Ogun State, stated that it is not a day for a long speech, using it to rather appreciate AIG Fayoade for his immense support and encouragement towards the building of the Police Station, while praying for Allah's continuous blessings and favours upon his work and family, stressing that the masterpiece donated to the Police signposts the impact of communal cooperation and determination which is sure to produce outstanding results.
In his words, "the event of today has shown that when we come together as a community nothing is impossible, it will be a great injustice not acknowledge the impartial role played by the AIGP, you are God sent to the Awori community and I pray that the Almighty God will continue to bless you and your household, while extending my gratitude to the council of chiefs, without forgetting my people in the CDA and the CDC."
AIG Adegoke Fayoade in his address described the event as historic. According to him, Oba Musiliu Eletu, the Kabiyesi of Itele who recently ascended his fathers' throne has made giant strides in terms of bringing development to the community aside the fact that he single handedly built and donated the Police Station to the Nigeria Police, saying, "one unique thing about the Police station project was the quick completion of the building within 3 months, coming handy to complement the existing station which is inadequate to meeting the security challenges of the town. When he
approached me, I gave my consent, because it will help in improving the security of lives and properties here and it was even more commendable that it was completed within a short period of 3 months."
On the relationship between the Police and residents of Itele, AIG Fayoade described it as cordial and was certain that both the Police and the community will continue to improve the relationship, saying, "without the
community, there will be no police. And the police cannot function effectively without the
community, because the community will provide credible information and credible intelligence that will assist
the police in securing the area. So we need the community and the community needs us to
provide high quality policing."
In her remarks, CSP. Oladele Oluwashola, the Area Commander, Sango Ota Area Police Command, appreciated all the people and construction agents that were vital to the realisation of the project, especially the commitment, collaboration and support that turned a vision into reality.
She said, "This building is more than just a structure, it represents our collective commitment to order and public trust. It has been built to provide a safe, functional and professional environment for our Police officers to operate efficiently and serve the people with honor and integrity.
To our dedicated officers and personnel, this is your space, use it well, be disciplined, diligent and accountable. Let every desk, every room and every corner of the facility reflect a proud and functional Nigeria Police Force, protect it, maintain it and let is be a symbol of your noble calling to serve and protect the courage of fairness." She advised.
Praying that the building will be more than an operational base, but a beacon of hope and safety between the Force and the community.
"As the door opens today, so will new opportunities, for stronger relationship and stronger justice. Thank you to everyone who made this project possible, we declare not only the building opened, but a renewed commitment to the values we all stand for.
With great pride and gratitude, we thank the Onitele of Itele for deeming it fit to ensure that this edifice would be opened today and we also give kudos to our IGP who has given his express approval to our indefatigable AIG Fayoade, we thank you so much, and I want to say the structure and edifice would be used for the purpose of humanity."
HRM Oba Musiliu Ademola Eletu (Asorota 1), Onitele of Itele, expressed joy over the completion of the Police Base building of the Police base, saying the building was borne out his passion to improve security situations in Itele and environs, prompting him to make a vow to the residents after his coronation to provide a Police Station and had been fulfilled.
He said "on the day of my coronation as the Oba of Itele, I did vowed to improve the level of security in the town and in fulfilment to that is the building and donation of the police station, which certainly is the first step towards addressing issues of insecurity. Hitherto Itele town was overwhelmed by activities of criminal elements, posing great concerns to residents.
"However with the donation of the police station to the Nigerian Police Command, officers will be drafted here to work, translating into greater surveillance and monitoring of dark spots to uncover criminal activities. I would advise those involved or planning to cause any security breaches in Itele to have a rethink, because the town now has sufficient number of brilliant cops overseeing the place to enforce safety for all and sundry" Oba Eletu said.
Mr Alonge Oluwadare, Chairman/CEO, Dapyemi Hotels and Suites said "The commissioning of the Police Station here in Itele is indeed a welcomed development and must be commended by all and sundry, for the fact that it will curb criminal activities, and foster peaceful co-existence in the community."
Oluwadare advised community dwellers, to collaborate with the Police and other security outfits in Itele to ensure their communities are rid of criminal elements, adding that security is everybody's business, "I'm confident however that with time, the crime level in Itele will be reduced with the creation of this new Police Base."
High chief Olufade Ogunyemi, the Baale of Olufade, Itele, described the building and donation of the police station as a very impressive and commendable effort on the part of Oba Eletu, the Onitele of Itele, adding that the entire community is excited that the issue of insecurity is being tackled frontally, with the building of the police station.
Any environment where there are security issues, businesses there will not grow, discouraging people from living there and will ultimately truncate development, saying, "I would therefore advise residents and visitors to shun criminal activities for their own good."
