Oba Rilwanu Akiolu, the Paramount Ruler of Lagos State, has during a courtesy call to his palace by Mr. Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, the Labour Party Governorship candidate for Lagos State on Thursday 16, March, declared his support for the candidature of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the incumbent governor of the State who is also seeking re-election under the All Progressive Congress APC.
Gbadebo who came to the palace in the company of his father, Olawale Rhodes-Vivour and uncle, Adekoyejo Rhodes with other party bigwigs in the State informed Oba Akiolu of his intention of becoming the Lagos State Governor in the Governorship polls to be held on Saturday 18, March.
After Gbadebo made a brief remark about his governorship intention, his father, Olawale, said, "I would like to start by appreciating you, for welcoming us and Gbadebo, the aspirant to your palace. The purpose of our visit is to formally acquaint you with the aspiration of Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour vying for the governoship seat under the Labour Party.
"As the father of all the contestants we have come for Oba Akiolu to bless, pray and share your words of wisdom to aid his success at the polls. Once again, I thank you for opening your doors to us." He added.
Oba Akiolu in his response appreciated them for coming, stressing that the Labour Party candidate is the only one among the opposition who consider it wise to visit to express his aspiration, noting that it is only God that has the power to enthrone anyone in the position of power however.
He said, "It is your inneliable right to aspire to any elective position in the land and there is nothing wrong with your ambition and I will always pray for your success in life, people have their season, let me borrow from the expression of Asiwaju who said some tried winning elective positions severally but failed, yet they kept at it till they eventually succeeded.
"I want you as a young aspirant to know that the future awaits you with the potential of becoming anything politically, you should therefore avoid any form of bickering or confrontations with opposing politicians, because, politicians do not fight, but disagree to agree later." He advised.
Oba Akiolu added, "As a father and Paramount ruler, I have come to realise that we may all be equal in the sight of God, but we are not equally loved by Him, and for me, I do not mince words, I would always bare my mind without fear or favour. Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu already won my symphathy having proved his mettle as Governor in the last four years and absolutely have my trust."
Adekoyejo Rhodes who responded on behalf of the team, thanked him for giving them the opportunity to share their aspiration, asking that the Oba should speak with those in authority to ensure a safe voting atmosphere on Saturday for their supporters to come out to excercise their civic rights.
Oba Akiolu afterwards call for peace and calm, asking Lagosians and party faithfuls to eschew any act of violence and actions that will be inimical to the successful hosting of the governorship election on Saturday.
