Professor Gerald Okeke, an Environmental Specialist in the Oil and Gas industry has bagged the prestigious Afrisafe Lifetime Achievement Award, and was confered on him along with other awardees last Friday in an elaborate event held on Friday at the Continental Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos.
Professor Okeke has over 35 years experience in the Oil and Gas industry working as a Health, Safety, Climate and Environmental Expert, using his position to promote and improve working conditions, well-being and productivity of his organisation, the Community and the environment at large, earning him several recognitions, awards and inductions into several hall of Fames both in the country and across the world.
The award notification letter to Prof. Okeke and signed by Dr. Afe Mayowa, Chairman AfriSAFE, reads in part, "We write to inform you of your nomination and selection for the Africa Safety Award for Excellence
(AfriSAFE) - AfriSAFE Life Time Achievement Award.
"AfriSAFE Lifetime Achievement Award: recognizes individuals across Africa, who have devoted a
significant part of their working life to advancing the cause of health, safety and environment in Africa, and
whose specific achievements have clearly benefited many people regionally or nationally.
"The Annual Award was instituted to recognize professionals / practitioners in Health & Safety,
captains of industry, and organizations for their exemplary Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) practices
in the workplace."
In his acceptance speech, Professor Okeke dedicated the award to GOD Almighty for his care and protection over his life and family, stating, "I equally dedicate this award to my late son Engr Ugochukwu Peter Ndubuisi Okeke, (Aeronautical Engr).
"I equally use this medium to my boss and offshore Superintendent - Engr Tunde Momodu and the charismatic and indefatigable Diving Superintendent - Bashiru Idowu ( The Bash himself) for their love, support and encouragement towards my coming to receive this prestigious Safety award.
"Special thanks also to Engr Pupu Ogheneteme .O. and Engr Bosun Ajayi (my Field Generalismo cum Senior Prof. plenipotentiary).
Professor Okeke equally used the opportunity to express his profound gratitude and appreciation to Ambassador Dr. Mrs Ngozi Gift Okeke, his beloved wife and partner for many years.
Other awards received by Prof. Okeke in the past include; Valachi Media awardee as the 'Grassroot Development Role Model' for 2022 and Conferment of 'Nelson Mandela 2022 Medallion Award On Project Management.
Professor Okeke Gerald Ndubusi is a native of Umulogho Obowo in Imo State. He also lectures at TRIUNE Biblical University, where he was awarded a professorial seat.
